Central Washington Justice for Our Neighbors (CWJFON) is a nonprofit regional immigration legal aid provider serving Kittitas, Yakima, Benton, Franklin, Walla Walla, and other surrounding counties. The non-profit organization provides free immigration legal aid to clients under 200% of the federal poverty level. 

CWJFON carries a mixed caseload which includes but is not limited to Advice and Counsel, U Visa, VAWA, Naturalization/Citizenship, DACA Renewal, Family-Based Petitions (including adjustment of status and consular processing), Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, I-601A Provisional Waiver, and T Visa. 

When fully staffed, CWJFON’s legal team is composed of one staff attorney and two experienced paralegals. The staff attorney position will become vacant shortly. Contract attorneys will fill this void prior to the hire of a staff attorney.  Contract attorney(s) may continue beyond the hiring of a staff attorney depending on demand.

CWJFON is seeking a contract attorney(s) to bridge the gap resulting from an upcoming vacancy in a staff attorney position. Contract attorney(s) may continue beyond the hiring of a staff attorney depending on demand.

Purpose of the RFP


The Contract Immigration Attorney will provide legal services that may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare, review, and file immigration petitions and applications.

  • Serve as attorney of record for all CWJFON cases.

  • Perform direct client representation and hold consultations.

  • Meet with clients to answer questions as needed.

  • Provide case review, legal strategy input and paperwork review for cases under contract.

  • Communicate regularly and meet weekly with paralegals to ensure timely and accurate case handling.  

  • Maintain compliance with applicable immigration laws, ethical obligations, and CWJFON policies.

  • Maintain records on INSzoom, Dropbox, and physical files. 

  • Develop and submit monthly board reports to the Deputy Director.

 CWJFON’s current caseload includes:

  • Active license to practice law in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Washington State Bar license preferred. 

  • At least five years of immigration legal practice

  • Experience with direct client representation in immigration 

  • Experience with asylum and removal defense is a plus 

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or consulting with attorneys

  • Experience working with nonprofits, legal aid, or vulnerable populations is a plus 

  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus

Qualifications & Experience

Include:

  • Anticipated start date: Immediately upon contracting 

  • Contract length: Three months to one year 

  • Close out current active cases and monitor pending cases at 10-20 hours a week

  • Remote work with ability to attend USCIS interviews if needed, usually Yakima or Spokane
